Trailblazer: MC Yogi
MC Yogi tops of the list of people who embody the spirit of Wanderlust, and if you've ever been to a festival, you could attest to this: this mindful maestro mans the main stage just as easily as he offers insightful lectures at our Speakeasy, and he drops in on yoga classes as often as he teaches them. MC Yogi mixes yoga with hip-hop, pop-culture and Bollywood. Witness for yourself this summer at our four 4-day festivals: Wanderust Vermont, Colorado, California & Whistler! We are truly psyched to feature MC Yogi as Today's Tuesday trailblazer, as today is the day that he's releasing his brand new video, "Breath Control", featured below.
WLJ: What aspects of yoga / meditation / spirituality do you bring into your work?
MCY: All Of Them. From deep conscious breathing while being fully engaged in action, to absolute surrendar and detachment, releasing the outcome knowing I've given it my All.
WLJ: How did you get involved with yoga?
MCY: I discovered Yoga after I left a group home for at risk youth. I was kicked out of 4 schools and saw most of my friends fall off, so I decided to follow my dad to an Ashtanga yoga class.
WLJ: What's your favorite pose?
MCY: Sitting in the sunshine.
WLJ: What's feeding your wanderlust today?
MCY: I am hungry for that which satisfies the mind, direct experience of the Self.
WLJ: If you could leave one legacy for your community what would it be?
MCY: If you wanna be Happy and feel peace......Give Love
When we got a sneak peek of his amazing new video, we couldn't wait to share it with you. It's somehow dope and adorable at the same time - but instead of coining a new word for that (a-dope-able?), we're encouraging you to use hashtag #breathcontrol as you share it (we know you'll want to). Read below to hear about MC Yogi's inspiration behind this a-dope-able (there, we said it) music video!
"I co-wrote Breath Control with my buddy Livingston when I was on Pilgrimage in South India. I wanted to create an anthem that invoked my love of nineties era hip hop combined with the essential yogic teaching of deep steady conscious breath. My wife Amanda and my good friend Michael Rosen of Samplistic Media helped me hand paint all the effects and animations. It was so much fun breathing love into the footage! I decided to dedicate the song and video to Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys because his style was like a breath of fresh air. He breathed a lot of love into hip hop culture, and helped my generation to become more enlightened and aware, for that I am truly grateful. Special thanks to all the good folks at Spiritual Gangster and all the yogis out there. With Love and Respect. Peace." - MC Yogi
