Jeff Krasno: What the Heck is the Yoga Community?

Posted by admin on 5/6/13 in Community

“When you begin to think about what we stand for, what our values are, and what our power is to change society, then you begin to realize that even at the smallest and grass roots level, what you do in your daily life can have resonance.”

Wanderlust Festival Co-Founder Jeff Krasno explores the question "What the Heck is the Yoga Community?" in this Speakeasy video from Squaw Valley 2012. He discusses what defines the yoga community, and whether they have a responsibility to participate in politics or policy.  "As a community, environmentalism, health, or buying organically are part of a larger process of decision making which I connect to mindfulness, which in it’s simplest form is thinking through the consequences of your actions or your decisions.”

1481 Special guest in this discussion is his eldest daughter, Phoebe, who poses some tough questions of her own, including "Why did you come up with Wanderlust? And why is there a kefir tent here? (But, I think I know why there's a kefir tent here). So, why did you start this here and why did you take it to Vermont, Whistler and Colorado, too?"  His answer, "Well, I do this partially for you, Phoebe," garnered a "Good answer," from his daughter.  But he elaborated on the mission behind Wanderlust, including how "The yoga community is defined by it’s commitment to mindful living, to our practice, to reducing our carbon footprint, to buying locally and organically, to cultivating a sense of personal spirituality in a incredibly complicated time, and probably most importantly to consuming consciously and ethically. I have stopped thinking that the yoga community needs to be involved in politics, but I absolutely think we need to be involved in policy."

1482 Wanderlust Festival is indebted to Hay House who helped us realize the entire 2012 Speakeasy Lecture Series across all four festivals (Stratton, VT in June 2012; Copper Mountain, CO in July; Squaw Valley, CA in late July; and Whistler, BC, Canada in August). With Hay House's amazing roster of speakers (which you can witness in person at their incredible "I Can Do It" events), it's no wonder that they helped elevate the conversation at Wanderlust's Speakeasy this past summer. We encourage you to stay tuned to the Hay House FB feed to make sure you know the next time one of their authors is speaking near you.
